- Faster refuelling in one trial Limited evidence
A randomised trial found that a high molecular weight glucose polymer taken after exercise improved performance in a subsequent cycling bout compared with a standard glucose solution, attributed to faster gastric emptying and glycogen resynthesis.
- No advantage as fuel during exercise Moderate evidence
A controlled comparison found glucose polymer molecular weight did not affect exogenous carbohydrate oxidation during exercise, meaning the body does not use it any faster while you train.
- Older starch-structure data are mixed Limited evidence
An earlier trial comparing starch structures found differences in glycogen resynthesis that did not translate consistently into subsequent cycling performance.
