Isomaltulose (Palatinose)
A slowly digested sugar sold as steady endurance fuel. It reliably produces a flatter glucose curve, but that has not translated into better performance in the trials that measured it.

What the science says

A double-blind randomised crossover trial before prolonged aerobic exercise confirmed isomaltulose produces lower and more sustained glucose and insulin responses than high-glycemic carbohydrate, with greater fat oxidation.
- Performance benefit not demonstrated Limited evidence
In that same randomised crossover trial the metabolic differences did not produce better performance in the exercise bout that followed.
- Narrow niches with specific evidence Limited evidence
Small randomised trials have examined isomaltulose before exercise in adults with type 1 diabetes on automated insulin delivery, and inside glycerol-based hyperhydration drinks, with modest and situation-specific effects.
