Spinach Extract (Thylakoids)
Membrane fragments from spinach leaves that slow fat digestion and prolong satiety signalling. Trials consistently show less hunger after a meal; whether that translates into weight loss is much less clear.

What the science says
- Reduced hunger and increased fullness Moderate evidence
A systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found thylakoid supplementation taken with meals significantly reduced hunger ratings, with doses around 5–7.4 g/day performing best. The absolute change on the visual analogue scale was small.
- Cravings for palatable food Limited evidence
A randomized trial in overweight women found thylakoid-rich spinach extract reduced hunger, increased satiety and lowered cravings for sweet foods. It was a small single-centre study with mostly self-reported outcomes.
- Actual weight loss Limited evidence
An acute randomized crossover trial confirmed the satiety effect after a single dose but did not measure long-term weight. No adequately powered long-term trial has shown that the appetite effect produces meaningful weight loss.
