Sideritis (Greek Mountain Tea)
A Mediterranean herbal tea studied for cognition and neuroprotection. One properly designed human trial found only small and inconsistent cognitive effects; the striking results are all in mice.

What the science says
- Cognition in healthy adults Limited evidence
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled parallel-groups study of a Sideritis scardica extract in healthy humans measured acute and 4-week effects on cognition and cerebral blood flow. The results were modest and task-specific rather than a broad improvement in cognitive performance.
- Neuroprotection in animal models Limited evidence
Sideritis extracts improved memory in amyloid-model mice and in scopolamine-treated rats, and reduced amyloid aggregation in a nematode model. These preclinical findings drive the marketing but have not been tested against clinical endpoints in people.
- Antioxidant and cardiometabolic claims Limited evidence
A review of Sideritis bioactives summarizes anti-inflammatory and cardiometabolic activity largely from laboratory work, and a small randomized study of a Sideritis-enriched food reported antioxidant marker changes in healthy subjects without clinical outcomes.
