Children's Omega-3
Fish oil in kid-sized doses, gummies or flavoured liquids, marketed for brain and eye development. Omega-3s are genuinely essential nutrients, but in children who already eat adequately the trials mostly fail to show cognitive or academic gains.

What the science says
- Cognitive performance in children and adolescents Limited evidence
A meta-analysis of omega-3 effects on domain-specific cognitive test performance in youths found no consistent benefit across most domains, with only scattered signals. Supplementing well-nourished children does not reliably improve learning or memory.
- Visual and neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants Limited evidence
A Cochrane review of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation in infants born at term found no clear or lasting benefit on visual acuity or neurodevelopment. Some short-term visual measures improved in individual trials but the pooled evidence was not convincing.
- ADHD symptoms Moderate evidence
A biomarker-stratified systematic review and meta-analysis in paediatric ADHD found small symptom improvements, concentrated in children with low baseline omega-3 status. The effect is much smaller than that of standard ADHD treatment.
