Libido Support Formulas

Multi-herb aphrodisiac blends. The specific blends are almost never tested; a few of their individual ingredients have modest trial support, and the rest are filler.

What the science says

  • A few individual ingredients beat placebo Moderate evidence

A systematic review and network meta-analysis of nutraceuticals for erectile dysfunction found that some single agents, notably L-arginine and Panax ginseng, produced measurable improvements in erectile function scores versus placebo, though the trials were mostly small and of modest quality.

  • Ginseng specifically Moderate evidence

A Cochrane review of ginseng for erectile dysfunction found low-certainty evidence of improvement in erectile function scores, and cautioned that most trials were small, short, and at risk of bias.

  • The blends themselves are untested Limited evidence

Proprietary multi-ingredient libido formulas are rarely if ever trialled as sold, and blends usually contain each herb at a fraction of the dose used in the trials on that herb. Evidence for a component is not evidence for the product.

Dosage & safety

Studied doseNo meaningful blend-level dosing exists. If you want an ingredient studied in trials, take it alone at the studied dose rather than as part of a proprietary mix.
SafetyThe main hazard in this category is adulteration: sexual-enhancement supplements are repeatedly found to be spiked with undeclared sildenafil or tadalafil analogues, which is dangerous with nitrates and in heart disease. Yohimbine, common in these blends, can raise blood pressure and cause anxiety and palpitations. Persistent erectile dysfunction warrants medical assessment, since it is often an early cardiovascular sign.
