What the science says
- Anti-secretory effect in rats Limited evidence
A study in experimental rat models of peptic ulcer reported that avipattikar churna reduced gastric acid secretion and ulcer index. This is animal-only evidence with no human follow-up.
- No clinical trials in people Limited evidence
No randomized controlled trial of avipattikar churna for reflux, gastritis or dyspepsia is indexed in PubMed, so its long traditional use remains its only human support.
Dosage & safety
Studied doseTraditional use is 3–6 g of powder once or twice daily with warm water. There is no trial-based dose.
SafetyClassical formulations contain sugar and long pepper, which can aggravate reflux in some people. Ayurvedic herb-mineral products carry a documented risk of heavy-metal contamination — choose brands with third-party testing. Avoid in pregnancy. Persistent reflux needs a diagnosis rather than a powder.
