C60 (Carbon 60) in Olive Oil

A fullerene dissolved in olive oil, sold on the strength of a single small rat study that reported longer lifespan. There are no human trials, and long-term safety in people is unknown.

Evidence last reviewed: August 2026

What the science says

  • Lifespan extension Limited evidence

The entire commercial case rests on a 2012 Biomaterials study in which repeated oral C60 in olive oil roughly doubled median lifespan in a small group of rats, with control groups that were small and unusually short-lived. The result has not been independently replicated and no human study of any kind exists.

  • Antioxidant and liver protection Limited evidence

Rodent work has reported that C60 fullerene reduces markers of liver damage in chronic alcohol intoxication. These are animal models at controlled doses; nothing translates them to people, and effects of nanomaterials often differ sharply between species.

Dosage & safety

Studied doseNo human dose exists. Products typically suggest 1–2 teaspoons of C60-in-olive-oil weekly, a figure extrapolated loosely from rodent dosing.
SafetyNot established in humans. C60 is photosensitive and can generate reactive oxygen species under light exposure, and nanoparticle tissue accumulation over years is uncharacterized. Avoid in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children. Products vary widely in purity and residual solvent from manufacturing.
